David Parkhouse

Shaldon's festival of classical music began in 1990 as a celebration of the life of David Parkhouse who lived at Long Acre, Ringmore.

David, born in Teignmouth, was Professor of Piano at the Royal College of Music.
In 1945, at the age of 14, David had been the youngest-ever student to have entered the Royal College of Music, having won a major scholarship.

Following national service in the Royal Air Force he returned to the Royal College of Music and formed a trio with Eileen Croxford and Hugh Bean, all founder members of the Music Group of London.

As a pianist he set himself, and achieved, the highest of standards, and as a teacher he inspired his students to reach for the same.  On their many travels, David and his wife Eileen (our president) were ambassadors for British music and musicians, indomitable and much-loved.
